Kachemak Bay is remarkable for its diverse marine life. The waters are home to Orca and Humpback whales, octopi, seals, otters, sea stars, butter clams, bright sea anemones, crab, and many other fish and mollusks. Townsfolk and visitors enjoy clam digging, whale watching and exploring the tide pools.
Seldovia is also renowned for its wildlife and is a popular area for fly-out sightseeing tours, bear watching, and other wilderness adventures. Local guides and air service are available for brown bear viewing trips along the coastal rainforests of the Kodiak Islands to the rugged volcanic coast of Katmai National Park. The sightseeing adventures offer unique opportunities to photograph the Alaskan coastal Brown Bear, also known as the Kodiak or Alaskan Grizzly, and other wildlife in their natural habitat. You’ll see why we consider this one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
We also recommend a trip to view Brown Bears in beautiful Lake Clark National Park, a place of unsurpassed beauty. The park offers breath-taking view of the ocean, mountains and streams, supplemented by wildlife in a natural setting. Travelers can see bears grazing in the meadows and watch eagles soaring overhead.
During the end of July and continuing through the late part of September, park visitors can fly or cast fish for Dolly Varden. From August through September, anglers can fish for Pink Salmon and there is a strong run of world-class salmon.
